Attiya Gamri, Dutch-Assyrian Political Leader
Attiya Gamri is a Dutch-Assyrian political leader whose career spans government, social services and international advocacy.
Born in Arbo, in the Tur Abdin region of southeastern Turkey, she arrived in the Netherlands with her family in 1980. Her experience as a refugee—and her family’s connection to the persecution and displacement endured by Assyrians—became a driving force behind her commitment to social justice, minority rights and public service.
Attiya trained in social work and earned a master’s degree in management. She built a distinguished career in youth care and social services, including serving as Director of the William Schrikker Child Protection and Juvenile Probation Foundation, where she supported vulnerable children and families with complex needs. She also developed expertise in mental coaching, particularly for women and children.
A member of the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA), Attiya served on the Provincial Council of Overijssel from 2003 to 2011. She chaired the party’s national women’s organisation from 2015 to 2017 and ran for the Dutch House of Representatives in 2021.
She later served as a municipal alderman in Bloemendaal and Heemskerk, holding senior portfolios across housing, social policy, education, community welfare, spatial planning and environmental policy.
Internationally, Attiya was a founding member of the Assyrian Federation of the Netherlands and was elected President of the Assyrian Confederation of Europe in 2016. Her advocacy has advanced Assyrian recognition, human rights and political representation across Europe.
Named Zinda Magazine’s “Assyrian of the Year” in 2008, Attiya brings together lived experience, executive leadership, and public service in her ongoing work for women, children, and historically marginalised communities.

Dr M. Anthony Harper is a US journalist, commentator and opinion writer whose work focuses on antisemitism, Israel, religious freedom and the principles underpinning Western democracy.
Based in Boise, Idaho, he is the co-founder, publisher and editor of InterMountain Christian News. He has reported from White House briefings since 2011, covering US foreign policy, the State Department, Israel and the Middle East.
Harper has reported from Israel, interviewed Knesset member Sharren Haskel and contributed commentary to The Jerusalem Post. His writing is also informed by his work as an ordained Christian minister and chaplain, together with his background in psychology and counselling.
Writing from an evangelical Christian and pro-Israel perspective, Harper examines how antisemitism enters public debate, political movements and institutions. His opinion pieces encourage readers to document hatred accurately, defend civic equality, distinguish legitimate policy criticism from antisemitism, and respond through peaceful democratic participation and cross-community solidarity.
